Skinopathy WOunds Southlake

A live demonstration of the Skinopathy Wounds platform at Southlake Residential Care Village (SRCV)

Last Friday was a milestone moment for Skinopathy and for long-term care in Ontario.

Our team, led by Keith Loo, Hannah Chan, MD (IMG), MHM, Rakesh Joshi (Ph.D., MMAI) and Richard Pietro, had the privilege of joining Southlake Residential Care Village (SRCV) as they welcomed the Honourable Natalia Kusendova-Bashta, Minister of Long-Term Care, and MPP Dawn Gallagher Murphy, Parliamentary Assistant for Long-Term Care, for a hands-on look at how Ontario-made AI can support residents and frontline staff.

Minister Kusendova-Bashta spoke about the province’s growing investment in long-term care and the importance of supporting nurses with tools that make their work easier. MPP Gallagher Murphy highlighted how responsible innovation and AI are vital to the future of health care in Ontario.

In fact, the MLTC continues to invest meaningfully in long-term care:

✅ $3.7M to expand skin and wound care training

✅ $180M to launch new nursing initiatives that attract and retain skilled workers

✅ $2B annually to support increased staffing across long-term care homes

Opening words from Dr. Amit Upadhyay, SRCV Medical Director, and Patrick Clifford, SRCV Board Member, set the tone for how much they value tools that give nurses more time at the bedside. We were also fortunate to hear from Candace Chartier, whose deep expertise in Canada’s long-term care sector reinforced the importance of modern solutions rooted in real frontline need. The highlight of the day was a live demonstration of the Skinopathy Wounds platform, led by Katie Lu, Nurse Practitioner at Southlake Health, and Hannah Chan, MD (IMG), Skinopathy COO. They showed how wound assessments can become faster, more consistent, and easier to document.

Southlake continues to demonstrate what it means to foster a forward-looking care environment that embraces innovation for the benefit of residents and the teams who care for them. We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate and to show how Skinopathy Wounds can support this important work. Lastly, thank you to Tammy Lake, SRCV Executive Director, whose leadership and vision brought this event to life. Thank you to Minister Kusendova-Bashta, MPP Gallagher Murphy, and the entire Southlake team for an inspiring day and for your leadership in advancing long-term care in Ontario.
